Raven Concealment Vanguard 2

For the past couple months I have been carrying a Glock 19 gen 4. With so many holster options available, I wanted something as minimalistic as I could get. I had seen other people on Instagram and youtube who carried in a Raven Concealment Vanguard 2 and I was intrigued with the concept. It is as minimalistic as it gets.

As you can see it just covers the trigger guard. Don't be fooled by the lack of coverage, it still has great retention for such a small means of carrying. The fastening system is the "push the dot" soft loop and is very functional. Once I got use to the way it snaps (bottom in first then push the top) I could take it off and on with ease. The Vanguard 2 is ambidextrous, full adjustable for ride height and cant and optimized for appendix carry but can also be worn strong side to about your 4 O'clock for right handed shooters and your 8 O'clock for left handed shooters.

The small hole at the base of the Vanguard 2 can be attached to the bottom of a car seat frame (I use paracord and a quick detach loop) for car carry. Just wedge it in between your seats or center console and draw when needed. it comes off clean and stays out of the way.

As you can see, the soft loop is attached to an arm that can be pulled away from the trigger guard. That is so you can tuck your shirt in behind it should you need to do so for work or any other situation. it is incredibly discreet and blends in well with black or brown clothing.

Should you not want to use the soft loop, the Vanguard 2 also comes with a lanyard (or you can use paracord) and attach it to your belt loop and tuck the slack into your pants for a truly invisible carry rig.

For $34.99 and available for all Glock and M&P pistols, it is nearly half, if not more than half, the price of traditional kydex or molded holsters. Overall I am incredibly happy with this product and will continue to carry it everyday.

Quick Look: GT Glock Tool

So yesterday when the McNally Trigger came in the mail there was also a Ghost Targets Glock Tool that had been tossed in the box for me to check out and review. This is another item that we have been contemplating carrying in the store, so it's nice to actually have some hands on time with it.

The first thing I noticed about the tool was the handle, unlike some of the other Glock tools I have seen out there on the market this one is smaller but also rubberized which adds some grip to it.

The "punch" is a well machined piece of metal, and there aren't any burrs or rough edges to be found on the end. It is also very stout and does not seem like it will bend unless you put a crazy amount of pressure on it.

With that said, these tools do come with a lifetime warranty on them. As long as you do not intentionally destroy the tool it is covered for life.

While there isn't a whole lot to review or say about this simple tool, I can say that it is very well made and the price ($14.99) is on par with many of the other tools out there but since this comes with the warranty it has a little more value to it I think.

Going After NFA Trusts and Surplus Rifles

So yesterday I was reading through the various pages and websites about the two new E.O.'s the President recently signed, and I kept thinking "How is this going to make the public safer?".

So here we are months after Congress listened to the overwhelming call of the people and voted no on "Universal" Background checks, and various other ridiculous bills that would have punished only the law abiding citizen. Laws that would have done absolutely nothing to change what is happening in cities like Chicago (even though they would like you to believe it would). Yet there is still this push to punish and restrict the law abiding citizens while the criminals do what they do best, disobey and break the law.

This whole "let's make it so NFA trusts have to have background checks, because it will make people safer" idea is ridiculous, I mean when was the last time that you heard of a legally purchased and properly registered NFA item used in a crime? Sure there may be some out there but I'm sure you would be hard pressed to find them.

Also when was the last time you heard of an M1 Garand being used during a crime? I'm pretty sure the last time I checked the FBI statistics long guns were used in a very minute amount of cases. So why is the blocking of the importation of weapons (ones that were made here)we have provided our allies so important to keeping citizens safe? Instead it will successfully dismantle a program that has been around for over 100 years, which has worked towards teaching safe marksmanship. What a ludicrous double standard, let us make people safer by removing the ability to import rifles that are used to teach them marksmanship and firearms safety.

So I keep asking myself how will doing this two things keep the citizens safer?

It won't make citizens safer, however it will be chalked up as a "win" for the anti gunners, which will keep them fueled for their push for more gun control. One way or another they will continue to try and dismantle the Second Amendment, and with a CIC like we have now they feel they can bypass Congress and use Executive Orders to accomplish their goals.

We still have a long road ahead of us, and it is only going to get bumpier. So stay aware of what is going, and keep the pressure on your legislators, let them know that they cannot legislate away violence.

Quick Look: Go Ballistics Firearms BCG

Recently our friends over at Go Ballistics Firearms asked if we would take a look at the BCG they have, and since we never pass up the opportunity to check out guns, gear, or parts we jumped on the opportunity.

They are currently running a special on it for $134.99 shipped.
http://www.goballisticfirearms.com/index1.php?route=product/product&product_id=57

When I first removed the BCG from the shipping box I was impressed at how clean it was. The finish looks great and I couldn't find any defects when I checked it over. Needless to say it was one of the nicer parekerized BCG's I have come across (I have seen some really bad ones before.).

The staking on the gas key looks great. Those screws won't move for sure.

The Bolt is MPI inspected and marked showing that it has been done.

We are looking forward to running this bolt for a few trips out to the range and seeing how well it performs, which I am sure it will do great since all of the specs for it are top notch (see below). Make sure to check back for updates.

Quick Look: McNally Glock Trigger

Recently I had posted up on the Facebook page that we will be carrying the McNally Triggers soon. I wanted to get my hands on one before we committed to carrying them.

Today I received the McNally Trigger for my Glock 19 right before heading to work, so I dropped it in just to check it out.

(Top: Glock Trigger Bottom: McNally Trigger)

As soon as it was installed and I dry fired a few times I was very impressed with it. All of the typical Glock grittiness that you get with the stock trigger is absent with the McNally. It also does not have that "stop" or "cliff" that you get with the stock trigger.

The trigger face is flat which makes it feel wider than the stock trigger is and feels like it will be comfortable for long range sessions.

Another cool thing about the McNally trigger is that it gives you the ability to adjust forward and rearward movement of the trigger. I plan on playing around with that and seeing just how much difference you can make with the adjustments (even though there really doesn't feel like there will be much if any adjustment needed), and will make sure to include my thoughts in the final review.

Another very cool feature about the McNally trigger is that it comes with a lifetime warranty, which stays with the trigger even if you sell the gun to someone else.

These are my impressions so far and I look forward to getting some range time with this trigger. Make sure to check back for the full review in the near future.

Model/Gen

The De-Cap-ATurtle

The De-Cap-ATurtle was recently released by Chris over at www.gunn-fighter.com

This is a very unique bottle opener that also doubles as a self defense weapon. The idea behind it is that it can be used as a downward "slashing" weapon in the event that you need it for self defense.

As you can see in the pictures below it has an "edge" to it, while the edge is not sharp enough to cut you if you run it over your hand. However when used in a slashing motion it is sure to put the hurt on an attacker.

I have seen quite a few people say on his Instagram pictures that it looks like the de-cap-aturtle would fold over if you hit someone with it, but after getting my hands on this one I can tell you it is a solid piece of work. It is made from 1/4" thick 6061 aluminum and the craftsmanship is awesome. Also since it is made of aluminum it is very light (.74 ounces) and I hardly even notice that it is on the keychain.

It also makes for a good bottle opener, the first time I used it to open up a beer it literally bent the cap in half.

If you are looking for a bottle opener that is also a great self defense weapon make sure to head over and pick one up from Chris at www.gunn-fighter.com

Quick Look: Iron Viper AR-15 Ambi Selector

Sure there are plenty of Ambi Selectors out there on the market, but the guys over at Iron Viper have made a very unique product.
Instead of the traditional smooth or small ridged selector they have gone with a waffle pattern, which I think looks pretty cool.

The center barrel is made from bar stock steel and the levers are made from 6061-T6 Aluminum. The entire selector setup is machined right here in the U.S.A.

We have one headed our way soon and cannot wait to get some time with it and writing down our thoughts and making some video about it.

Make sure to check back for updates on the "Viper Switch" soon!

For The Reloaders

Everglades Ammo is a company that I used often when I was reloading my own 9mm. They have great prices and quick shipping. I know that getting your hands on reloading components was difficult there for awhile but I have been keep a close eye on this site, and it seems that the parts are slowly making their way back into the stores.

Some of My Glock Modifications Part 2

There are a few other modifications that have been done to my Glock 19, 2 of them are aesthetic and 2 are functional.

I will start with the aesthetic modifications first.

I have been a fan of the Kryptek patterns ever since I first saw them when I was browsing around a few of the different gear websites, and I kept trying to figure out what I would put it on. So when I started messing around with the stippling and other modifications I figured I would go ahead and have the Typhon pattern done to my slide.

In my opinion this is all about aesthetics, sure hydro dipping and clear coat adds another layer of wear protection to your slide. However if you really use your guns, and not just get them looking good and set them in the safe, the coating is going to get scratched. You can see the holster wear on the slide in the picture below, to me it's added character, to others they would probably want to get it repaired.

Removing the "black" from the barrel and giving it a polished look is said to serve for both aesthetics and function. I have read that by polishing up the barrel there is less felt recoil because the slide isn't dragging across the finish, I can't really say that I feel a difference but hey it sounds cool.

I however did it because I like the look of the polished barrel with the Kryptek Typhon pattern, I think it looks pretty cool. I will say that one of the added benefits was after shooting 1K rounds it was really easy to tell when my barrel was clean.

Now this next modification can fall under both the aesthetic category and comfort/function category. Undercutting the trigger guard helps alleviate "Glock knuckle", if you aren't sure what that is you are either very fortunate or haven't shot your Glock enough. While my work does not look as professional as some of the others out there, the function is exactly what I need it to be.

This was one of modifications that I went into knowing that taking too much off would completely screw up the whole frame, so I took my time removing material as slowly as I could and test fitting it to my hand often. It's not the prettiest job out there but it works great for me.

The last modification I will talk about is the sights. There are literally hundreds of choices out there for sights and that can make it difficult to find some that you like. Not only should you like the sights that you get but you should be able to use them.

There are a variety of factors that affect which sights you should get, some people's eyes are older than others so they would need sights that are easier to pick up. While others may not like their sights to have a whole lot going on and would prefer black on black.

The one thing I will say is pick your sights based on what you like and if they work for You.

I really liked the the Ameriglo Pro I Dots when I ran across them during my search. I had seen a few other reviews on them and liked what I was hearing, and after installing them on the Glock I liked them even more.

(Sorry not the greatest pictures but iPhones don't do micro well.)

I am working on the review for these sights and hope to have it up soon, but don't take my word 100% for them until you have tried them out yourself.

The only other thing I have modified after all of this is the trigger, however that will require a whole other post as there have been quite a few things I have tried and changed. So make sure to check back for that post here in the future.

Quick Look: Strike Industries SHOX iPhone 5 Cases

Along with the Mega Fins Hand Guard that we received on Saturday we also received 2 of the Strike Industries SHOX cases for the iPhone 5. If you haven't seen these cases yet they might look a bit odd to you.

The unique thing about them is that there are "shocks" on each corner of the case, they are made out of some pretty stout little springs that cause your phone to bounce if dropped. One of the other features is the "loop" at the top, it looks strange but after using this case for the past day I have come to appreciate it. The loop works great if you have a tendency to carry a lot in your pockets and sometimes have to dig for your phone, once you have a finger on the loop you can pull your phone right out.

There are a few other cool features like the different covers for the ports, and the fact that the section down near the speaker is designed to direct the sound towards you. We will be doing some extensive use and abuse with these and updating as we have more time with them, so make sure to check back for more reviews.
