It's Not Over Yet

Today was a spectacular day for the Second Amendment with the defeat of the Universal Background Check bill and the Assault Weapons Ban, however we are a long ways from this fight being over. For those of you who watched the press conference that Obama held you know that the Anti-Gunners only see this as "the first round", in their minds this battle is not over and we need to make sure to keep the same mentality. We must stay vigilant and aware, now is not the time to become complacent and become caught off guard.

I am sure over the next few months we will see more bills being written trying to dismantle our second amendment rights, most will be the same as we have already seen just reworded and with added "sweeteners" to mask what the bills actually are. We need to make sure to keep the pressure on our legislators and make sure that they understand that their elections are on the line and voting to restrict our rights is means for them to lose their positions.

If you aren't registered to vote make sure that you get your registration in and make your voices heard. Don't buy into the lies that your votes do not count, your vote is your voice and right now we need to continue to make our voices heard.

I will say that it is best if you order multiple lowers to spread the cost of the tooling between them, yes the Jigs aren't cheap but you are having the lower shipped directly to you so there is no dealing with an FFL.

Here is a good tutorial for doing the 80% lowers, like with any other firearms build it is important to take your time, read and re read the instructions, and be patient while doing the work. Taking your time will make a big difference in the quality of the end product that you are making.

Ammo Shortage and Range Time

I am sure that many of you have felt the pain of walking into your local sporting goods shop in search of a couple boxes of ammo, only to find the shelves barren and more than likely littered with cobwebs. I know for myself it has been months, probably since January since I have seen ammo other than 7mm, 30-06, and 12ga on the shelves at our local Walmart. Even worse is walking into the local gun shop (who is already overpriced) and seeing boxes of .22LR for $20 for a box of 50, or .223 for $25 per box of 20.

It seems that you really have to be willing to pay the ridiculous prices to be able to head out to the range and shoot or you have to really limit the use of the ammo that you currently have when you head out to the range. I know for myself personally it hurts every time I have to go and dig into my ammo boxes and take some out of my "stash", yet at the same time I am glad that I got into reloading when I did and had purchased as many supplies as I could to at least hold me over until this "shortage" is over.

So the question is how can you stay "proficient" with your Carry or Home Defense guns during this time where it seems that it is nearly impossible to find ammo?

These are just a few sites that I had found, each had some great information for how to conserve ammo while staying proficient with your firearm. I am sure that at some point in the future we will be seeing ammo slowly creep back onto the shelves of Walmart and local sporting goods shops, but for now sacrifices have to be made while continuing to train.

Defeatist Attitude

Alright everyone lately while I have been scanning through the various Pro 2A Facebook pages and websites there is one common thing I have been seeing, and that is the Defeatist Attitude. You all know what I am talking about, that attitude that because certain states have passed the most ridiculous gun laws to date, we are losing the battle for our rights and there is nothing that can be done about it.

Seriously I have seen this more times than I would like to count, and this is not something we should be seeing. Gun owners have never been ones to roll over and give up easily, they keep fighting until they have accomplished what they set out to do.

There are many ways that the states that have passed these ridiculous gun laws will suffer in the long run, as we have seen in the feeds Magpul, Beretta, and Colt are leaving the states that they are currently in. Now think about that, think about how much tax revenue that will pull from those states, also think about how unemployment will go up, or even the population of tax paying workers will go down once these companies leave.

Sure the gun control bills will continue to come forward and some will get by because of lies that they public is being fed daily, but that doesn't mean we should give up. That's not the American Patriot's way, it has never been that way, so why are we starting now?

Keep up the good fight, keep the pressure on your legislators, and if you in Occupied Territory do whatever you can to either move or help push Pro 2A bills forward.

Fealty Arms 80% Lowers

Not sure how many of you have thought about doing your AR-15 from an 80% lower, I know for myself this is an idea that I have tossed around for a bit but haven't really acted on it. There are a few reasons for that, first getting all of the items that I would need to do it were out of reach due to funding and what not, and second at the time that I had thought about there were plenty of lowers available for under $145 (including shipping and transfer fees). However now that we are seeing a drought on parts and lowers that are in the affordable range it is looking like it might be a good time to make one from an 80% lower.

Most of the 80% lowers I have been seeing have been in the price range over $150, which I understand because there is no need to send it to an FFL because it hasn't been finished so there is no need to do transfer paperwork. Yes this is 100% legal because as determined by the firearms technology branch of the ATF, this lower receiver is not classified as a “firearm” as defined by the GCA of 1968.

Yes it requires some finishing to make the lower ready to build into a complete lower, but the time spent really learning the basics of what it takes to build your AR from the ground up are extremely valuable, plus you get the pride and satisfaction knowing that you took that lower from 80% to a full rifle.

GallantFew Inc

So I know that many of you have seen the flyer that I have put up from GallantFew that explains what they are all about, however I haven't written anything about them myself because I was really unsure of what I wanted to put down into words.

I personally was made aware of GallantFew when 2 Vets Arms passed the idea around of making a Spartan Helmet lower that would benefit Descendants of Sparta which is an awesome program aimed to help prevent Veteran Suicide, which has been on the rise since the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom. I personally have known a few veterans who had contemplated suicide while in and some after they had separated, many of them have a great support system or other veterans to come beside them and help. However there are others who don't, DOS is working to change that and help turn the tide of veteran suicide.

GallantFew also has other programs that are in place, and one of the most important that I have seen is the Mentor Program. One on One mentoring by a veteran who has been out awhile and takes a new veteran to help them transition back into civilian life. I know for myself when I left the Air Force and we moved back to California I had a hard time adjusting to not having a job or being the bread winner in the family. Honestly I became very lazy and spent all day in the apartment looking for jobs that just weren't there, and that was back in 2004 before the job market had taken a header. I wish now that I had another veteran to come up along side and help out the way that GallantFew is doing. I had friends and family around but they didn't understand the way that other veterans do.

The above programs are only part of what GallantFew does but they are the ones that I think speak volumes as to what GallantFew is doing for the Veteran Community. This is why I had contacted Karl Monger about using the logo on my shirt to help raise funds to help further the cause, and after a few email conversations with him I can tell you all that he is a stand up guy who genuinely cares for other veterans , and wants to do everything he can to help them out.

FIREClean vs .22LR Conversion Kit

A little while back I started using FIREClean, and from the little bit that I had used it I was impressed and it got me looking around for the dirtiest piece of firearms parts I had. I came across my CMMG .22LR Stainless Conversion Kit, which I had already run around 1,500+ rounds of bulk Federal ammo through.

Sure in these first few pictures it doesn't look to terribly dirty but the outside of the conversion kits rarely do.

I quickly got to work tearing it down to make it easier to get a really good cleaning done on it, and as I pulled the firing I realized just how dirty and caked on all of the "bulk" grime actually was. It took a couple good thumps on the table to actually dislodge the pin and when I finally got it all the way out I realized why.

I gave the pin a quick wipe down with a cloth and some FIREClean and was impressed that I didn't need to do anything more than that to get it cleaned off.

Next I got down to the really dirty parts of the conversion kit, and with the way that they were caked with grime I was pretty sure it would take some real work to get it all cleaned off.

Even though I had figured that the carbon build up was going to take some time to clean off I was thoroughly impressed with just how quickly the carbon wiped off with just a small amount of FIREClean on a cleaning patch. Almost every section that was caked with carbon wiped off instantly, however there were a few stubborn spots that required a little bit to be dabbed on and let sit, even then it still didn't stand much of a chance.

The pictures below speak for themselves as to how well FIREClean works, and I can tell you that it took very minimal effort overall to clean this conversion kit and lube it up for more trips out to the range.

It took me about 30 minutes during my lunch break at work to clean the conversion kit thanks to FIREClean, and I am now officially sold on it. Make sure to check out their website and Facebook page, and pick up a bottle to try out you will be glad that you did.

Inforce WML

Recently I got my hands on the Inforce WML, I already own their APL and it is one tough little light that is super easy to switch from one weapon to the next, needless to say I am a fan of it. Up until recently though I had not seen a WML in person, so when I removed it from the box I was excited to check it out.

The first thing I noticed was how well it is built and even though it is on the lighter side, it is solid. The mounting system is really easy to use and when locked down has absolutely no wiggle.

The light has 3 options, High, Low, Strobe and the switching between them is very simple. Speaking of the switch I really like the way that it is contoured into the light body making it very easy to set your thumb on it in a natural position, also the locking bar to keep it from accidentally being turned on works and is easy to manipulate.

I had the opportunity to mess around with it a little bit last night around the house and back yard, and despite being 125 Lumens it is very bright thanks to the light being white, I am sure at greater distances it would become a little harder to see but honestly for myself the only time the light would ever be used would be around the property or when out hunting and getting back to the trucks when the sun starts to set.

Botach CRT (Carbon Removal Tool)

I don't know about most of you but one of the things I always take the most time to really clean is the BCG for my AR. Sure it is Nickel Boron and it does clean up a bit easier than a standard BCG but carbon does still build up on it. One of the best tools that I have found for cleaning is the Botach CRT, it scrapes the carbon right off of the bolt and helps to give the pin a nice cleaning.

This is a tool that is now a standard piece to my cleaning regiment and I highly suggest that anyone who owns an AR find one and put it to use.

GOP Gun Control Filibuster

So I know that many of you have heard about Rand Paul and his plan to Filibuster any Anti-Gun Legislation that is brought forward, and I am happy that James Inhofe (R-OK) has joined in with him along with a few others. A few months back I had emailed Inhofe and asked him where he stood, and the response that I received back was exactly what I needed to hear from him. It was that he would not budge on our 2nd Amendment rights, and here he is now doing exactly what he said he would do.

Today I saw a post about Mark Kelly urging those who have stood together threatening to filibuster any of the legislation, not to do so because they would lose their constituents due to the fact that they were going against what the American people want, you know that 90% of households deal. My question is why does he think they are doing threatening to do this? Is it not because so many of us have contacted them and asked them to stand firm on our Second Amendment Rights?

I believe that the Anti-Gun group will go as far out of reality as they need to get the results that they want, there are many ideas in my head to how far they would be willing to go but I will let them stay there. The Anti-Gunners are so far out of touch with what the American people really want that they have to create their own statistics (only polling those they know will answer the way they want), and constantly use smoke screens and lies to push their agenda.

I urge you all to keep writing your legislators, and if they are standing up for your Second Amendment rights send them a big thank you letter and encourage them to stay strong. This fight is long from over folks, and it is only going to get uglier, we need as many strong fighters for our rights as we can muster.
